Common Xbox 360 Repair Methods That Can Be Done From Home
If you're unit has no video, sound, or power then you need to check the power cable. This is one of the basic troubleshooting methods for any console aside from handhelds and is often the most overlooked. The reason that it's most overlooked is probably because it's one of the simplest problems. If you're unit still does not have power after resetting the cable then you may have an issue with the power supply.
If you have power to your unit but no sound or video then the Xbox 360 Repair procedure that you must try first is to check your video cables. Make sure that you check your connections and ensure everything's properly seated. These first suggestions are quite simple but many people call XBOX 360 support centers without trying them first and could have saved some time and money.
If your 360 is having a heat problem then there are a few possible XBOX 360 Repair options available. First you need to take care of the simple things by making sure there's adequate room around the console for it to breathe and try standing it horizontally. If this does not fix your problem then you may want to call XBOX 360 support unless you're skilled at PC repair.
Modern consoles resemble computers more than gaming consoles these days. That being said if you have experience working on Computer Cooling systems then you might be able to help your 360. If you're unsure of yourself or have a warranty then get it serviced by a professional but if you have nothing to lose then you can try this procedure.
Sometimes when a unit is manufactured it does not have enough thermal grease between the Heat Sink, GPU, and CPU. This is one of the most common forms of overheating and requires that the Heat Sink be removed, both it and the respective processors cleaned of old grease, fresh thermal grease applied to all components involved, and then remounting of the heat sink. It will take 24 hours of continuous operation for the new grease to sit but if it worked your console won't be overheating anymore.
